Foster job creation and economic development
Working to help bring jobs to South Saint Paul as both a City Council Member and Economic Development Authority Commissioner has been an honor. While I am passionate about public health and safety as well as our parks system, I know that without a strong tax base the services provided by local government could be negatively impacted and cost citizens more. I have been fortunate to have been employed in the private, public, and non-profit sectors of our economy. Jobs and justice can—and should—work hand in hand.
As County Commissioner, I look forward to working on economic development issues. The County, like any city, has an important role in working with the private sector to assist in the redevelopment of blighted and under-utilized areas. I will also support assisting cities in Dakota County by increasing redevelopment grants to grow jobs and the county’s tax base.
Dakota County also has been active in creating housing opportunities for low income seniors and I will continue to support this. I also know that employers need workers who have stable housing options and I support workforce housing for workers that is affordable and near their place of employment.
If elected County Commissioner, I will work to foster job creation and economic development. As such, I am reminded of this quote from Martin Luther King, Jr.: “What good is having the right to sit at a lunch counter if you can't afford to buy a hamburger?”
